Read a server’s reported player count

Read the server-reported Minecraft player count from the MinecraftStatus Java and Bedrock status API.

What this field means

The players object is evidence returned by the server protocol. online and max may be null when the target answered without supplying a bounded count. Null is an unknown field, not zero and not proof that a server is empty.

Example
"players": {
  "online": 12,
  "max": 100,
  "source": "server-reported"
}

Handling rules

  • Check freshness and validUntil before presenting the observation as current.
  • Keep missing values visibly unknown. Do not turn null into zero, a guessed version or an empty string.
  • Use evidenceCode and verdict for state decisions. Field values provide context.
