MINECRAFT STATUS

Is it Minecraft, or is it this server?

Measured, not guessed. Enter a server address for a live protocol check, or see the current Mojang/Microsoft endpoint reachability below — every result carries the time it was observed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I check if a Minecraft server is online?

Enter the server address (for example, play.hypixel.net) into the search bar above and choose Check. We run a live protocol handshake against the server and show its status, player count, version, MOTD, and latency, or an honest Unknown if the check couldn't complete.

What does "Unknown" mean?

Unknown means we could not complete a live check — the address was invalid, resolved to a destination we won't connect to, or the check timed out for a reason unrelated to the server itself. Unknown is not the same as Offline: Offline means we did attempt a check and the server did not answer.

What is MOTD in Minecraft?

MOTD stands for Message of the Day. It is the short text that appears below a server's name in the Minecraft multiplayer server list. Server owners use the MOTD to share news, rules, or a welcome message with players before they join.

What's the difference between Java and Bedrock Edition servers?

Java Edition servers run on the original Java-based version of Minecraft and use the default port 25565. Bedrock Edition servers support consoles, mobile devices, and Windows 10/11 using the default port 19132. The two editions use different network protocols, so players on one edition cannot connect to servers running the other unless a proxy like GeyserMC is used.

Why does a server show as offline when I can still connect?

Some servers block the status protocol handshake while still accepting real game connections. A live Offline result means our check got no response — it is a strong signal, not a certainty. If you can still join in the client, trust that over the checker.

How fresh is the data shown here?

Every check happens live when you load the page, and results carry an observed time and a short validity window (about 30 seconds for servers, 60 seconds for Mojang endpoints). Past that window we treat the evidence as expired rather than keep showing it as current — reload to get a new check.
